As a teenager, Katia found solace from a difficult neighborhood and the continual struggle to put food on the table, by doing volunteer work in her local community. Her work with communities received several accolades, even a presidential medal, but her need to empower others and change the environment seemed to only grow stronger.
Hoping to contribute her efforts to help the environment, she started with small changes in her daily habits. She searched for 'eco-friendly' fashion and to minimize her waste. However, as time passed, she realized many products are simply not eco.
